This course covers the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain breathing apparatus and equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere, as defined by the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.
Please call 13 70 80 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for course dates.
This course is for operators who are required to wear breathing apparatus because they are working:
- in a confined space
- with hazardous gases/vapours
- in an oxygen deficient atmosphere
- in other situations requiring the wearing of breathing apparatus.
Operators may also be required to wear breathing apparatus in emergency situations, however, this is not the prime focus of this unit. This course of competency applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team or group and working in liaison with other shift team members and the control room operator, as appropriate.
Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will receive a Statement of Attainment.
Competency is obtained through both theory and practical assessments. The practical assessment requires you to demonstrate the skills required to be deemed competent. The theory assessment will be undertaken in a written form.
If you feel you will be disadvantaged by undertaking a written assessment, please discuss with your trainer/assessor prior to the beginning of the time for the theory assessment.
All attendees MUST have a USI (Unique Student Identifier). We are unable to issue a credential unless a valid USI has been provided.
Please click here to apply for a USI prior to the course or be prepared to apply for one on the day (in which case a Driving License and Medicare Card is required).
The duration for this course is 8 hours split into 2 x 4 hour sessions (1 week apart).
There is a 15 minute break for morning or afternoon tea.
